Trains on the Metra BNSF line were expected to run on time Tuesday evening after frozen track switches and a broken rail caused delays on the West Side.

Trains in both directions were delayed beginning about 6:30 a.m. because of frozen switches near Cicero and Congress Parkway. A broken rail also was reported on the same line, according to Metra.

Workers began fixing the rail about 9 a.m. and were expected to finish about 3 p.m. “So hopefully, it’s not going to impact rush hour,” a Metra spokesperson said.

The issues had caused trains to be operating up to 55 minutes behind schedule, the spokesperson said.
